BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery, also known as “BBL”, is a specialized fat transfer procedure designed to augment or modify the appearance of the buttocks. Excess fat is removed typically from the abdomen, flanks, lower- and upper back, thighs, arms, and chin (the right spots for depending on what is medically possible and on each individual needs/desires) with liposuction, and a certain amount of this fat then strategically injected into the buttocks.
Why have a Brazilian Butt Lift?
The shape and proportion of a person’s buttocks are largely determined by genetics; both your skeletal structure and how your body stores fat, influence the appearance of the lower body. A healthy diet and exercise can work to achieve a healthy body weight and tone the muscles. But many patients remain unhappy with a “flat” buttock that lacks shape, despite a healthy lifestyle.
With a Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, Dr. Serbülent Güzey can improve the proportions of the body and overcome the effects of genetics by helping a patient to lose fat in common “problem areas” and enhance the buttocks.
- You might consider a Brazilian Butt Lift to:
- Reduce fat pockets on your hips, thighs or belly while adding fullness to the buttocks
- Help clothing fit more attractively
- Give a more youthful, aesthetically pleasing shape to flat buttocks
- Enhance your overall proportions by improving the balance between your upper and lower body
“As a personal approach, I frequently combine whole body liposuction and fat injection surgery. In this way it is possible to have better proportions, you will get rid of the fat accumulations disturbing you and get a thin waist curve and a wider and fresher butt shape, which is desired by most patients”. – Serbülent Güzey
Who is a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian Butt Lift can be a great option to improve the shape and size of the buttocks; however, certain patients are better suited to the procedure, and it is important to have realistic expectations about the surgery, recovery, and results. In general, you are likely a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift if you agree with the following:
- You are in good overall physical and mental health.
- You have realistic expectations of the outcome
- You want a buttock augmentation without implants
- You have a good skin tone in the hip- and buttock area
- You have adequate fat stores in other areas to harvest (for the fat injection into the buttocks)
- You have the ability to properly rest and recover post-surgery as you won’t be able to perform certain tasks
- You are willing and able to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for 3 weeks
- You are at least 18 years old
Despite its name, a Brazilian Butt Lift is not a traditional “lifting” procedure – it does not address loose skin on the buttocks. If you are bothered by excess, sagging skin on the buttocks, a buttock lift surgery may be a more suitable option.
To undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift, you’d have to be able to plan a stay of 5 days in Istanbul.
Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Buttock Implants
One significant advantage of Brazilian Butt Lift surgery is that it increases buttock size without implants. In the hands of Dr. Serbüent Güzey, the procedure has a low risk for complications with no risk of rejection as it’s the patient’s own tissue and can achieve remarkably smooth natural-looking and feeling results.
However, if you are very lean, you may not have enough fat to harvest, and buttock silicone implants may be the only way to achieve your desired size increase. The properly sized implants are inserted to the butt trough an incision in the coccyx area. Buttock implants may be a good option for some patients; however, it is important to understand the added risks of having implants, including capsular contracture and a higher risk for infection. Buttock implants can also look and feel less natural compared to a skillfully performed Brazilian Butt Lift.
Brazilian Butt Lift Consultation
The consultation begins with taking your photographs for our medical archive.
Then Dr. Serbülent Güzey will examine the areas of regional fat depots, the proportion of the waist curve and upper leg area, and estimate the butt size. Dr. Serbülent Güzey will use a surgical marker to highlight the areas you have chosen to remove fat (known as harvest sites) and mark the areas where he will reinject the fat.
During your consultation, he answers all your questions, listens, and understands your expectations and makes the planning based on your desires regarding the size and shape.
What is involved in Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?
A Brazilian Butt Lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and begins with liposuction. Diluted local anesthesia is infused through small, inconspicuous incisions to reduce bleeding and trauma.
Then a thin hollow cannula is inserted through the incisions to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum attached to the cannula.
Once the fat has been collected it is purified and prepared to then strategically reinjected it into the areas where the butt is desired to be enlarged.
To keep the fat injection procedure as safe as ever possible we perform continues fat injection by using blind cannulas, inject the fat over the muscle, and keep away from some danger zones.
After that, the drains are placed to drain the fluid from the surgery and the incisions are closed with sutures. The area gets covered by dressing and the compression garment is put on.
The duration of the surgery is around 3 hours.
After Brazilian Butt Lift
After the surgery, a compression garment is worn to help with the swelling and assist in the contouring of the buttocks.
The drains will drain the fluid from the surgery and will get removed some days after the surgery (depending on the amount of fluid).
Patients should start light walking shortly after surgery – nothing strenuous, just short walks around the room every other hour. It is good for the circulation and helps prevent blood clots.
Our patients will stay in the hospital for one night after the surgery and get discharged on the following day.
While pain is typically minimal and easily controlled through pain medication, you will not be allowed to sit or lie directly on your buttocks as you have to avoid any pressure on the butt area for the first three (3) weeks following the surgery. During this time, you will need to sleep on your stomach and either lie this way or stand. Sitting is only allowed with the special BBL-Pillow which we provide for you.
The first shower can normally be taken on the 4th day after surgery and you should be able to resume light daily activities within 1 week and return to work within 10 to 14 days.

Massages
As part of good aftercare, we strongly recommend our patients’ manual lymphatic drainage massages as the prime choice. As multiple studies have shown, lymphatic massage speeds up the recovery process help to accelerate the reduction of swelling and bruising after surgery and smooth, even results are achieved.
“Patients can expect a 50% reduction in recovery times, utilizing lymphatic massage in the early postoperative period.” – Dr. Serbülent Güzey
MLD (manual lymphatic drainage) massages can also reduce the occurrence of eventual skin hardening. Also known as fibrosis which can be unpleasant and unaesthetic (considered one of the main complications after plastic surgery). Every case is different depending on the type and extent of the surgery. Having MLD treatment for 6 weeks is ideal for cosmetic procedures. Twice a week for the first couple of weeks, to be reviewed after that.
Post-surgery utils
Ab board: You can start to use ab boards 5 days after surgery. In some cases, an earlier use is required in order to avoid wrinkles and folds in the abdominal area.
Foam: If needed, foams can be used under the garment after surgery.

Nutrition
Adequate hydration (drinking plenty of water) and a healthy diet (vegetables, fruits, lean protein, and whole grains) are essential for the aftercare of your Brazilian Butt Lift.
Exercise After Brazilian Butt Lift
After your Brazilian Butt Lift, you should take light walks as soon as possible after surgery. A light cardiovascular activity to help your lymphatic system work properly and better.
After three to six weeks, you can resume your workout routine in order to ensure you have allowed your body time to recover.
Vigorous training in order to target the gluteal muscles (such as squats, lunges, and intense cardiovascular training) should be avoided for three months to assure that as much as possible of the transferred fat cells survive. After this time period, you are free to slowly build your gluteal muscles and potentially further increase the size of your buttocks.
Life After Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery
Brazilian butt lift results are meant to last for many years. Fat cells removed with liposuction will not return to the area, and fat cells that survive the transfer to the buttocks will remain for years to come. However, significant weight fluctuations can affect your results. In order to maintain good results, you should focus on good general fitness and incorporate more vegetables, fruits, lean protein, and whole grains, and into your diet. While reducing the intake of sugars, simple carbohydrates, and saturated fats.
Your improved body contour will be apparent when the swelling and fluid retention, which are commonly experienced following a Brazilian Butt Lift, subside. Results are typically final within 6 months of surgery and you are fully healed.
By this time, your curvier buttocks and improved body proportions will be noticeable in how you look and in the way clothing fits.
As your body ages, it is natural to lose some firmness, but most of your improvement should be relatively permanent.
Although good results are expected from your procedure, there is no guarantee. In some situations, it may not be possible to achieve optimal results with a single surgical procedure and another surgery may be necessary.
