The Surgery
The first procedure for the surgery is detailed planning, which is of great importance because it will be guiding in the surgical procedure. At this step, the surgery that will be carried out is explained to the patient once more over the marks. And the areas that will be intervened and what kind of interventions will be made are detailed.
Blepharoplasty may be carried out under local anesthesia or with a combination of local anesthesia and sedation anesthesia. In both anesthesia types, some prior anesthesia medications are applied to the patient to relieve the tension before the surgery. Therefore, the patient does not feel any pain during the surgery. It is important that the patient, who is intended to undergo sedation anesthesia after the interview period prior to the anesthesia. The patient does not take foods or beverages starting at least 6 hours before the surgery.
Upper blepharoplasty surgery takes approximately 30 minutes, and the excessive skin, muscle, and adipose tissues are also excised during the surgery. The incision that is made during the operation is planned in a way that will be on the eyelid curve. So that there will be no visible scars after the surgery.
Lower blepharoplasty surgery takes approximately 1 hour, and the incision is 2 mm below the eyelashes. During this process, the fat bags in the lower lid are excised and reshaping is applied. Meanwhile, excessive skin is also removed.
In both surgeries, the incisions are sutured with absorbable subcutaneous sutures; and the patient does not need to have sutures removed in future periods.
Post-Operative Period
After the surgery, starting from the early periods, the cold application is made to the eyelids with intervals for a few days. With this application, the edema and bruises that may occur are kept to a minimum level.
The mild pain and the sense of tingling starting after the postoperative 2nd hour are common and may be controlled completely by simple painkillers.
In blepharoplasty surgery, the recovery is fast, and the swelling in the first 2 days returns to normal; and the patient can return to normal life from the first day using sunglasses. Although bruising is rare, it may occur due to the thin structure of the eyelid skin, which is largely regressed within 4-5 days.
Important Points
Patients often hope that the eyelid aesthetics will also eliminate the drops in the eyebrow corners. However, the eyelid aesthetic surgery provides a rejuvenation around the eye; and the droppings in the eyebrows cannot be eliminated in this way. To correct this area, eyebrow suspension techniques must also be included in the surgery. For this purpose, the acquisitions will be described to the patient in the pre-operative period in detail through figures and photographs.
With the rejuvenation around the eyes, the eyes will have a more vivid and dynamic image, and parallel to the demands of the patients, with Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX), which will be applied after 2 weeks, the wrinkles that occur due to mimics in the forehead, goose legs, mid-brow areas may also be eliminated; and more harmonious and satisfying results can be obtained.
